I have just read an ovation from Mark , who used a wood that he calls a wood from Hades.
Could you have tried Tasmanian Blackwood??
It is usually pretty easy to work though. You may have just found a stray one that we call a "politician"---very stroppy and hard to get anything from.
Regards from Paradise here in Tassie.

It's winter in the Ozarks. I just started the sanding schedule and boy is there a ton of sanding on one of these rockers. No problem--I just light the wood stove, put an audio book on the ipod and sand away. Everyone is invited to see what I'm doing at my website (nothing commercial there). Checkout the "Work-In-Progress" navigation button to see the rocker.

Merry Christmas, I just got the bundle as a requested Christmas gift. I realize I do not have all the tools I need to build these types of chairs but I can incorperate many aspects of them in my own chairmaking. P.S. Very professional video and website.

This is a great site for anyone interested in woodworking. It is especially interesting to those of us that have been bitten by the build a " Maloof Inspired" rocker bug. Great Job Chuck!

Hi Chuck!
I'm looking forward to your studio discussions. I've purchased the walnut I'll need and have been letting it air dry for about a year. I've forgotten a lot in that time I'm sure so I'm going to need all the help I can get!

Hey Chuck,
I'm really looking forward to this journey. I too was a woodworking teacher (now retired), both here in the states and Australia. Please visit my website: www.coeur-de-larbre.com to see the kind of wood work I've been doing. This chair adventure ought to be fun!
